The poem featured here is a wonderful illustration of Annemarie Roeper's whole person definition of giftedness. There is a new movement in Gifted Education that focuses on Talent Development that seems to forget that gifted kids like Charlie live and breathe this greater awareness and sensitivity--it simply is "who" they are and just what they do.

Since 2003, GET‘s all volunteer organization has provided parent education, learning and volunteer opportunities for students, professional development training for educators and other appropriate support for high ability and Twice Exceptional learners.
Our programs address all aspects of the gifted learner including social-emotional development, gifted advocacy, appropriate assessment and identification, curriculum delivery and academic content, gifted with learning disabilities (Twice Exceptional), parenting support and more.
GET was honored to receive the Friend of Education award from the Eagle County Education Foundation in 2005 and five continuous years of support from The United Way of Eagle River Valley. Order a copy of "How to Be an Explorer of the World" and do one activity per day--some can be ongoing and others can be changed to have fun and do again!
Hunk o' Junk: Find "stuff" in your garage, at a yard sale, at the Thrift Shoppe or Habitat's "Restore" and make something from nothing! Get out your screwdrivers, glue and paint brushes to create your own inventions or found art.
Become a Photographer: use a simple camera and document your neighborhood, your favorite hike, the Farmer's Market, a series of local birds or flowers--you name it! See your world from a new perspective. Keep a photo journal all summer long and write your observations, finds and thoughts in a notebook.

Join one of the local Children's Theater Groups where every cast member plays an important role in joining together to rehearse, play improv games, sing & dance and more!

Field Trip: John McConnell Math & Science Center in Grand Junction. Over 250 hands-on learning science exhibits/experiments that is fun for ALL ages. You have to visit here at least once! (And, trust us; your kids will LOVE it!)

Astronomer: Eagle Valley Astronomical Society
Second Thursday of each month 7:30-9pm
This group of amateur astronomers meets at Walking Mountains Science Center. The group is made up of adults and children alike, anyone with an interest in astronomy at any level is invited to learn about features in space, using telescopes, and interpreting the night sky.
Audience: All ages, elementary aged children should be accompanied by an adult.
